KIDNEYS AND HYPERTENSION

Ending on:

Venue:
Hospital Boardroom

Description

Hypertension and kidney disease share a complex, bidirectional relationship — each capable of causing or worsening the other. This CME session aims to enhance healthcare practitioners’ understanding of the physiological, clinical, and management aspects of hypertension as it relates to kidney health. Participants will explore the mechanisms through which high blood pressure damages the kidneys, how renal impairment contributes to secondary hypertension, and evidence-based approaches to prevention, diagnosis, and management. Emphasis will be placed on early detection, rational use of antihypertensive agents, and multidisciplinary strategies to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with hypertensive kidney disease.

Objectives

Describe the normal physiology of renal blood flow and its role in blood pressure regulation. Explain the pathophysiological link between hypertension and chronic kidney disease (CKD). Identify clinical signs, laboratory findings, and diagnostic tools for detecting hypertensive nephropathy. Discuss the major risk factors contributing to kidney damage in hypertensive patients. Outline current evidence-based strategies for preventing and managing hypertension in patients with kidney disease. Demonstrate appropriate patient education and counseling approaches for lifestyle modification to improve kidney and cardiovascular health.
