Description
To equip healthcare workers with the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to safely, aseptically, and effectively insert, manage, and monitor permanent urinary catheters, thereby improving patient outcomes and reducing catheter-associated complications.
Objectives
Demonstrate sound knowledge of urinary system anatomy and physiology relevant to permanent catheter insertion.
Identify appropriate indications and contraindications for permanent urinary catheterization in different patient populations.
Apply infection prevention and control principles, including aseptic non-touch technique (ANTT), during catheter insertion and maintenance.
Competently perform permanent urinary catheter insertion in male and female patients using standard clinical guidelines.
Select appropriate catheter types and sizes based on patient condition and clinical indication.
Provide comprehensive catheter care and maintenance, including drainage system management and patient comfort.
Recognize, prevent, and manage common catheter-related complications, including catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs), blockage, trauma, and leakage.
Demonstrate effective patient communication and education, including informed consent, privacy, dignity, and self-care instructions.
