Objectives

Objectives of the Training Define ARDS Understand the Berlin definition and diagnostic features. Identify Risk Factors and Aetiology Recognize common causes such as sepsis, pneumonia, aspiration, trauma, etc. Explain Pathophysiology Understand the stages: exudative, fibroproliferative, and fibrotic. Discuss Management Principles Ventilator-based strategies (lung protective ventilation, PEEP, permissive hypercapnia). Non-ventilator strategies (proning, neuromuscular blockade, corticosteroids, ECMO). Apply Berlin Criteria for ARDS Classification Implement management based on severity. Implement Lung Protective Ventilation Use low tidal volume and appropriate pressure settings. Choose Appropriate Adjunctive Therapies Corticosteroids, conservative fluid therapy, supportive care. Recognize and Manage Complications Ventilator-associated pneumonia, barotrauma, multiorgan failure, lung fibrosis.
