Participants will explore the biomechanical, biological, and technical factors that contribute to spinal instability, implant failure, pseudoarthrosis, and other postoperative complications. The session will also highlight common surgical and clinical missteps that increase the risk of spinal failure, including poor patient selection, inadequate fixation, and suboptimal postoperative management. By integrating current evidence and clinical best practices, the lecture aims to equip learners with practical strategies for preventing spinal failure, optimizing patient outcomes, and improving long-term spinal stability.

Objectives

Describe the biomechanical and biological mechanisms responsible for spinal failure in both native and instrumented spines. Analyze the patient-related, surgical, and implant-related factors that contribute to spinal failure and postoperative complications. Apply evidence-based prevention strategies, including appropriate surgical planning, implant selection, and postoperative care, to minimize the risk of spinal failure and improve clinical outcomes.
