Description
This activity involves the systematic review and discussion of pediatric morbidity and mortality cases to identify contributing factors, assess the quality of care provided, and identify opportunities for improving clinical practice and patient outcomes. The meeting focuses on reviewing clinical management, timeliness of diagnosis and treatment, adherence to clinical guidelines, referral processes, and preventable causes of illness and death among children. It promotes a culture of learning, accountability, teamwork, and continuous quality improvement to enhance the delivery of pediatric healthcare services.
Objectives
By the end of the activity, participants should be able to:
Review and analyse paediatric morbidity and mortality cases to identify clinical and health-system-related contributing factors.
Identify avoidable factors, delays in care, and gaps in the management of critically ill children.
Evaluate adherence to clinical guidelines, protocols, and standards of paediatric care.
Identify opportunities to improve early diagnosis, emergency management, and treatment of common paediatric conditions.
Develop evidence-based recommendations and action plans to prevent avoidable morbidity and mortality.
Strengthen teamwork, communication, and coordination among healthcare providers involved in paediatric care.
Monitor the implementation of recommendations from previous morbidity and mortality meetings.
Promote a non-punitive learning environment that supports professional development, patient safety, and continuous quality improvement.
